Tourism in Spain at the 1960's

Interview

In this video we ask a few questions to Asier's grandmother about the situation of toursim in Spain at the 1960's.

Which was the first impression at seeing the first tourists?

Did tourism changed society?

How did people communicate with foreigners?

Letter of a British Tourist

Hello Paul,

It's so nice to be here in Spain. I'm staying in a campsile near Palafrugell, especifically in Tamariu.

The weather compared to the climate in England is much better here. The sun is always shining and it's hot outside, so we can wear shorts and t-shirts. The only bad thing is that we got sunburns on the first day. Spanish people, just as we were expecting, are really nice and kind. We are also really pleased with the service in the campsile we are staying at. We have met people from all around the world that, just like us, decided that  Spain was the perfect place to spend their holideys at.

In general, the food is really tasty and we really like it. But some Spanish traditional dishes like paella and fideua with allioli made us feel a bit dizzy and sick, because we aren't used to it.

One thing that happened when we arrived was that when we were parking our car in front of the campsile, we didn't realise that it was not allowed to leave the car there. So, when we came back after seeing the campsile, we found a police officer in front of the car who was just about to give us a ticket. Luckily, we were able to explain to him that we had just arrived in Spain and we didn't know it was illegal. After a good twenty minutes, the officer agreed to let us not pay the ticket.

In conclusion, our holidays are being good in general.

Lots of love.

Harry
